Over the past year, the business has had more shortages than I’ve come across around my thirty years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery issues due to plastic resin allocations from plastic resin suppliers. This is actually the first instance I have seen all these issues at the same time.
PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar both are on allocation.
Both of these resins are in short supply. The PTFE – Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) as well as PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that’s mined in Mongolia and China. The world requirement for this mineral has grown significantly, and the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is utilised in a bunch of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is actually the key raw material inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This rise in demand bundled with general shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double within the past year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
